Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

As representatives of the student population, our WE TEAM provides input for our school-wide events and fundraising for the community. Our students also show leadership in sports, and have received many banners in a variety of events. In addition to informal recognition on a regular basis, we acknowledge students’ contributions in our classrooms, school announcements, newsletters, our principal’s report to school council, and end-of-year awards ceremonies.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Our volunteers contribute many hours of support for the benefit of students in our school. Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and has contributed to our library, our audio- visual equipment, computer technology, arts and music program, improvements to our school yard and our wellness initiatives. We thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an on-going basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them in school announcements, our principal’s report to school council, school newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation event, as they are valuable partners in the education of our students. There is also a Special Award of Merit in memory of A.G. Jones, a former teacher at ECMS, awarded to a parent or volunteer who has contributed to the positive development of the school community.

Community

We have a close association with the City of Ottawa and the Blackburn Hamlet Community Association. We recognize our community partners through our school announcements and monthly newsletters. We also invite them to events, awards ceremonies, and to the grade 8 leaving ceremony. We are a community school and appreciate the support we receive from our neighbors in Blackburn Hamlet and Orleans.
